General Zio Information

This video will guide you through step by step instructions for applying the monitor. For the first 24 hours post application, please avoid getting the Zio monitor wet in the shower or by excessive sweating during exercise. After that, feel free to carry on with regular activities. Wear the Zio monitor according to your physician prescribed wear time, but no longer than 14 days. The Zio monitor is recording and storing every heartbeat while you are wearing it. Your physician uses this data, analyzed by iRhythm, to determine a proper course of action for your care. While working properly, the monitor will not flash or make any sound. If you have any questions about the monitor, please call iRhythm Customer Service at 888-693-2401.

Recording Symptoms with the Zio monitor

The Zio monitor is designed to record every heartbeat. While the Button Press Log is useful, pressing the button indicates that you felt symptoms at that time. Pressing the button on the Zio monitor when you feel a symptom is important, but the Zio monitor records every heartbeat whether you press the button or not. While recording the Zio monitor will not flash or make any sound. You can ensure it is active and recording by holding down on the button for 10 seconds. A green light will flash indicating it is working, and don’t worry, this won’t be recorded as a symptom.

Insurance and the Zio system

Depending on your medical insurance plan and factors such as your deductible status, there may be a cost to you for the Zio system. Please refer to our Insurance and Billing page to learn more about your possible costs.

End of wear period

At the end of the time your doctor instructed you to wear the Zio monitor it’s very important for you to send it to iRhythm Technologies the day you remove the monitor so we can analyze your heart activity recorded by the monitor and provide the doctor your comprehensive Zio report. First, follow the monitor removal directions in your Patient Instructions and Button Press Log booklet. Then, simply place the Zio monitor in the convenient postage pre-paid return box, and mail it at the Post Office, drop it in a United States Postal System (blue) mailbox or give it to your mail carrier. The return address is already printed on the box. Please be sure to use the blue sticker included in the box to seal the box shut before sending it back to iRhythm.

Water and the Zio monitor

The Zio monitor is water resistant, but not water proof. You can shower while wearing the Zio monitor and even take a bath, but please keep the Zio monitor above the bath water. Keep showers brief and try to keep soaps and lotions away from the Zio monitor. You should not go swimming or submerge the Zio monitor in water. Excessive sweat can cause the monitor to slide, become loose, fall off and generally shorten wear time.

Troubleshooting your Zio monitor

If you see the Zio monitor flashing orange, it means that the monitor is not attached well to your skin. It does not mean there is a problem with your heart. Press evenly on the clear wings of the monitor for 5 minutes. If the flashing persists, or if the monitor has fallen off, please call iRhythm Customer Service at 888-693-2401.

During wear it is normal for the monitor to move slightly from its original position, a blue gel becoming visible under the wings and the wings appearing cloudy. It is also normal for skin irritation and/or itching while wearing the Zio monitor. If you have severe irritation or itching, or if hives or blisters develop, please call iRhythm Customer Service at 888-693-2401.
